We lost most of a day last year to a lookup that was wrong.
We were verifying that our M1 lines were egressing where we thought they were. Every public source pointed at AS17547 for M1, so that's what we checked against, and the numbers didn't line up. The actual egress was AS4773. The documentation and the network disagreed, and the network won.
That's the short version of what this article is about. If you're buying Singapore mobile IPs to run accounts or feed a solver, the specs sheet is not the thing to trust. The live IP is.
Test the ASN, not the country
Geo-lookup tells you a country. It doesn't tell you what kind of address you're on, and that second thing is what platforms actually score.
Singapore has three real mobile carriers. StarHub egresses on AS9874, M1 on AS4773, and Singtel has its own range again. If the IP you're testing comes back on a hosting provider's ASN, you've got a datacentre address wearing a Singapore label. That's not a mobile proxy no matter what the product page calls it.
And it's arguably worse than an honest foreign IP. A datacentre range that resolves to Singapore looks like someone deliberately positioning themselves, which is a more interesting signal to a risk engine than a Malaysian residential IP that's just a person on holiday.
So pull the ASN on whatever you're trialling, from the proxy itself, and see what comes back. It takes half a minute and it's the single highest-value check you can run before you spend anything.
The shared-pool problem
Most products sold as mobile proxies are pools. One SIM sits behind a modem, and the seller decides how many customers share it. You're rarely told the number and the number moves.
For scraping public pages, fine. Genuinely, buy the cheap pool, it'll do the job.
For a logged-in account you spent months warming, it's a different calculation. Somebody else on your SIM runs something aggressive, the platform attaches a flag to that IP, and the flag lands on your account. You'll spend a week reading your own scripts looking for a bug that was never yours.
That's the part people underestimate. It isn't just that the shared IP might get burned. It's that when it does, the failure looks exactly like your own code breaking, so you debug in the wrong place first.
We sell the other shape. One SIM, one port, one customer, and that's more or less the entire product. It costs more than a pool slot and I'd rather say plainly that not every workload needs it than pretend otherwise.
Who calls the rotation
Second question worth asking any provider: when the IP changes, who decided?
A lot of panels rotate on a timer. Every ten minutes, every hour, whatever the plan says. That's reasonable for crawling and actively bad for account work, because your session can change address halfway through an upload.
Every port we sell has a private rotation link. You call it when you want a new IP, after a job finishes or between accounts, on your own logic. Nothing rotates underneath you unless you asked.
If you're solving captchas at volume this is worth more than it first looks. A rotation that fires mid-solve costs you the solve and the token, and you've paid for both.

How this sits next to a solver
You're probably already running CaptchaAI against something at scale, so this is the part that matters most.
Challenge difficulty isn't fixed. It's scored against the reputation of the address making the request. A clean carrier IP on a session that looks like a person gets waved through or gets the easy version. A flagged datacentre range gets the version built to be expensive. Same solver, same script, very different cost per thousand.
Which means if your solve spend has crept up and your volume hasn't, look at your IPs before you look at your solver config. The solver is downstream of a decision that was already made about your address.
What a proxy won't do for you
Three honest limits, because I'd rather you know them now than discover them in week two.
We're one country. That's deliberate and it isn't a roadmap item. If your work needs fifty geographies, we're the wrong tool for that part of it.
Mobile IPs are shared address space by design. Carrier-grade NAT means real Singaporeans are sitting behind the same public address you are, and that's precisely why the IP is trusted. But it means a mobile IP is dedicated to you at the network level, not unique to you in the platform's eyes. Those are different claims and some providers blur them.
And a proxy isn't a device. It changes where the request appears to come from. It doesn't change what your browser or handset reports about itself. If something is reading sensor data, hardware attestation and install history, the IP is one signal among many, and fixing it alone won't rescue an account that's failing the others.
